A documentary film about Ukrainian prisoners of war - 6 November 2019

Play Video

Short documentary Unbroken Women became a part of an advocacy campaign for the protection of Ukrainian prisoners of war. The stories of three women gave voice to more than 3 000 POWs in Ukraine who have suffered from the Russian aggression.

The film is related to Ukrainian women arrested and tortured by pro-Russian paramilitary groups in 2014. The documentary consists of three episodes featuring the stories of three women, who suffered for their pro-Ukrainian position and supporting of the Ukrainian army.

The purpose of the film was to increase awareness of human rights violations during the Russian armed aggression in Ukraine, in particular, to civilian prisoners of war. The film aimed to reduce stigma surrounding POWs to ensure they’re aware of their rights and to build support among the state and international community.

The documentary was successfully screened in Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia, Georgia, UK, Ireland, Sweden and USA (NYC). Movie also broadcasted at Ukrainian TV channels, and promoted a legislative change in support of POWs.
