From the first days of the Russian invasion in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Mariupol was under heavy fire. The city quickly found itself surrounded by Russian troops and survived in the conditions of a humanitarian disaster. Local residents were deprived of the possibility of organized evacuation. The evacuation corridors were shelled and people died in whole families. But Volodymyr managed to get out of the occupied city with the help of a stranger.
Currently, the boy is safe with his father, but the family lost their loved ones – mother and sister – and father and son found themselves without a roof over their heads. Volodymyr shared his story with us in the short documentary “Escape from Mariupol”.
